Giver is a culmination of my influences up to this point. The opening track 'Vinnies Bell' was the first time I sang on a song and it really felt like a eureka moment. Before then, I'd been trying to fill the gap of where a vocal would sit with other instruments, so singing gave me room to simplify the production now that it had a clear focus. I think part of me always knew I had to sing, and the point where I finally woke up to that just happened to be at a stage where I was wanting to say something more direct and personal.

The fact I was finally singing on my own music tied perfectly into the themes that were naturally starting to emerge in the songs. At its core, the album follows the course of a tumultuous relationship I had during 2020, but I always find myself wanting to connect these personal experiences to a more universal concept. The idea of 'giving' - as a way of bridging the internal and external world - came to stand at core of the album on a number of levels; giving as a way of making your ideals a reality, giving yourself to another and giving a more personal side of myself through these songs.
