I was inspired by a gospel style of piano playing with lots of moving chords. I wanted to make a song based around that, where the chords moved and danced in tandem with the vocals. When it came to writing the song, it just so happened that the word ‘Wholeheartedly’ perfectly represented where I wanted to be in my life. The lyrics are based around that idea of never quite committing to the present, a feeling that seemed to be particularly drawn out of me during lockdown last year.
